Odisha’s Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP Dr. Sasmit Patra has been nominated to the panel of Vice-Chairmen of Rajya Sabha.
The Chairman of Rajya Sabha has re-constituted the panel of vice-chairmen with effect from July 24. Besides the BJD MP, the panel has five other members. It is for the first time that an Odia MP has been nominated to the panel in the past 20 years.
Being on the Vice-Chairmen Panel of Rajya Sabha is a responsibility for presiding over the House during the Session as and when required by the Chairman, Rajya Sabha. Panel of Vice-Chairmen in Rajya Sabha hold the same position in the House while presiding as the Chairman of the House.
