Plasma Therapy Starts in Ganjam District to Treat Critical COVID-19 Patients

Amidst the spike in COVID-19 cases in the district, the Ganjam district administration today started the convalescent plasma therapy to treat the critical COVID-19 patients.

The convalescent plasma therapy, which has been producing encouraging results in treating serious patients in the State, began at Tata COVID Hospital at Sitalapalli near Berhampur.

Talking about it, Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange said that six blood plasma units were brought from the plasma bank set up at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

The plasma would be administered to patients in four COVID hospitals in the district, he said.

He also urged the officials to gather details including blood group of recovered persons in their respective areas and approach them to donate plasma.

Earlier on Monday, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has made a number of announcements in a review meeting on Covid war to redraw and re-strengthen Covid strategy in Ganjam district, which has registered maximum number of COVID-19 cases in the State.
Apart from the plasma therapy, the CM sanctioned Rs 25 crore for the district to support its fight against the COVID-19.
